I prefer staying on streets to avoid lobbyists: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said he prefers staying on the streets most of the time to avoid lobbyists and unnecessary gathering at his secretariat office during office hours.
Sometimes, I run away from my secretariat office to avoid lobbyists and I think it is better to stay on the streets than at my office, he said.
Quader was addressing the concluding session of a workshop on Public Administration and the Media at the conference room of the public administration ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Sometimes, I ask my colleagues to bring office files to my residence, office of the roads and highways department or parliament office to avoid lobbyists, the minister said. He also pointed out that the crowd of lobbyists at his secretariat office has declined.
Speaking on graft in the bureaucracy, Quader said corruption would decline if the minister and the secretary of the ministry concerned have commitment to stop it.
The media affairs adviser to the prime minister, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, and Senior Secretary to the public administration ministry Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, among others, addressed the programme. A total of 60 reporters attended the workshop that begun on Tuesday in cooperation with Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum.
