Teachers of the 37 public universities across the country are going to observe a full day work abstention today in demand of a separate pay scale.
However, the examination will remain out of the purview of the programme. Besides, the teachers will hold sit-in programme from 11 am to 1 pm at their respective campuses.
The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association said they are going to observe the pre-announced programme of full day work abstention as they did not see any effective steps taken by the government to fulfill their just demands.
They also said the recently approved eighth national pay scale has not reflected the hopes and aspirations of the public university teachers rather the selection grade has been scrapped from the pay scale.
Federation Secretary General Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal told The Independent that they want to create an environment for discussion on their demands.
“We will continue our movement and at the same time we will sit with the government for discussion. We have a meeting with the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on September 19,” he said.
Asked about the next programme, he said, “As the universities are going for Eid holiday, we did not announce any new programme. But we will take decision about it later.”
The public university teachers have been waging different programmes demanding separate pay scale and their status.
