2 DU students get scholarship
Two meritorious students of the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Technology of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded with 'Abdul Haque Munshi-Gulnaher Begum Memorial Scholarship' for securing the highest CGPA in BS 1st year honors examination.
The awardees are Nazmul Hossain and Farhana Islam Farha. Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed the scholarship among the students as chief guest at a function on Tuesday at the VC's lounge of the university.
Abdul Haque Munshi-Gulnaher Begum Memorial Trust Fund of DU organised the programme, said a press release.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology Prof Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu, Chairman of the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Technology Dr Md Shafiqul Islam and Donor of the Trust Fund Prof Shahidul Haque Munshi addressed it as special guests.
Prof. Arefin Siddique said the main objective of education is to create humanitarian values in human being.
He urged the students to become honest and patriotic citizen after equipping themselves with humanitarian values.

Day-long programme for nurses held at AIUB

The Department of Public Health of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a daylong programme for nurses on Friday, says a press release.
The programme comprised of a workshop followed by interactive sessions with the nurses and then a career oriented seminar titled ‘increasing opportunities for nurses in public health’ and quiz competition. About 200 nurses attended the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Brig Gen (retd) Md Abdul Majid
Bhuiyan, director (Hospital), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) along with Charles Villanueva, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB. Ugochi U Irikannu, health and medical supervisor, Chevron Bangladesh, conducted workshop as chief facilitator in the morning session.
In the closing ceremony, Brig Gen Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, director, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), was the chief guest while Mohammad Sadiqur Rahman, director, Central Police Hospital, Dhaka, was the special guest.  and Tazul Islam, dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, gave vote of thanks and distributed prizes among the winners of different competitions.

Foreign Secretary meets DUVC
Foreign Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Md Shahidul Haque called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) AAMS Arefin Siddique on Monday at the latter's office of the university.
During the meeting, they discussed regarding setting-up of a new Institute at Dhaka University in cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
The proposed institute may create opportunities for conducting more academic and research activities on intellectual property and law at the university.

Software Testing and Quality Assurance Lab at JU
State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Tuesday said that fiber optic cable network service will be reached all upazillas within this month using own network of the ICT division.
He said this at the launching ceremony of the Software Testing and Quality Assurance Lab (STQAL) at the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) in Jahangirnagar University.
The standard of the software would be examined at STQAL that has been set up with the financial assistance of the government.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, the state minister said, `Bangladesh is the role model of the establishing of technology-knowledge based of society. We have been working to serve high speed 3G service in all upazillas, creating human resource and industrial promotion.’ `Our aim is to serve the students of the remote areas as if they could be able to make self-employment knowing education, healthcare and agriculture service of the goovernment’, the minister added.
Presided over by the JU Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, the programme was addressed by the JU pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain, local Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Enamur Rahman and director of IIT-JU KM Akkas Ali among others.
