PS Mahsud, one of the paddle steamer of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation plying on longest river route of Dhaka- Chandpur-Barisal-Morelganj, went out of order on Tuesday night after a collision with a sand laden Vessel MV Subarna in Char Kawa area of the city on the River Kirtonkhola.
Syed Abul Kalam Azad, assistant general manager BIWTC Barisal station, said three plate of left-paddle of PS Mahsud broken after hitting by the vessel about three kilometers off to Barisal river port.
The steamer plying on Dhaka-Chandpur-Barisal-Jhalakathi-Pirojpur Morelganj route with more than 125 passengers on board.
When the steamer reached Barisal port it went out of order and evacuated the passengers, BIWTC AGM said.
It will take three days to repair or replace the broken peddle of the steamer and placing again on the route, he said.
After the incident BIWTC official shifted the passengers to another vessel of the department.
Passenger alleged that the authorities failed to manage them shifting properly in another vessel. They only left them in Barisal port terminal.
