Bus services to resume today, say owners

After a suspension for several days following student protests, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Samity will operate bus services across the country, including the capital, from today Monday morning, reports UNB. Khandaker Enayetullah, secretary general of the association, told yesterday night that they have decided to run all types of buses, including long-route ones, from today morning. Amid the growing student movement over a nine-point demand, including ensuring safety on roads and resignation of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, transport owners had suspended the bus services in the capital and on long-routes for an indefinite period.

The student movement continued for the 8th consecutive day yesterday to press for the nine-point demand. Students took to the streets in several places of the capital and a number of places across the country.

In the morning, several thousand university students blocked Shahbagh intersection, protesting Saturday's attacks on school and college students in Jigatala during their demonstrations demanding safe roads.

On July 29, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a 'Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan' bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road which sparked off protests among the students across the country.
