Bangladesh ‘A’ Team powered past their Irish counterparts by 87 runs in the second fixture of the unofficial one-day series at the Oak Hill Cricket Club ground in Wicklow, Dublin on Saturday.
By virtue of winning the match, the visiting side took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series against the home side following the washout of the opener on August 1.
Bangladesh second string team rode on Jakir Hasan (92) and Fazle Mahmud (53) mustered a comprehensive 289-6 in 50 overs after which Ireland ‘A’ Team were bundled out for 202 with 21 balls remaining to overhaul the target.
Bangladesh made a scintillating start through their openers wicketkeeper-batsman Jakir Hasan and Saif Hasan put on a dazzling 139 runs for the opening stand that laid a solid platform for the visitors.
Saif fell for 37. But Jakir Hasan successfully completed his fifty and later went close to hundred but fell eight runs short of his century. Jakir made run-a-ball 92 that was laced with eight fours and three sixes.
Fazle Mahmud took the charge and rotated the strike with Al Amin Jr at the middle of the game. Al Amin clouted five boundaries and one six after being scored 47 off 49.
After Jakir Hasan, Falze Mahmud also blasted half-century of 41-ball 53. Captain Mominul Haque clubbed 23 off 34.
Mohammad Mithun went for five-ball duck. Nurul Hasan Sohan was unbroken on five.
Peter Chase and Tyron Kane scalped three wickets apiece for the home side.
Chasing the target of 290 to win, Ireland ‘A’ Team fell into the devastation of the pace and spin combined attack of the tourists’ bowlers especially Syed Khaled Ahmed and Sunzamul Islam as they mislaid four top-order wickets for 41 runs.
Therefore, Harry Tector and Shane Gatelake handled the initial blow as they put on 57 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership. Tector clobbered 23, while Gatelake 38. Finally, Tyron Kanne’s 49 off 40 that featured with three four and as many sixes that helped cross past 200-run mark but that was not enough to prevent the inevitable defeat.
Left-arm pacer Shariful Islam finished for visitors with three wickets. Khaled Ahmed, Sunzamul Islam and Mohammad Saifuddin claimed two wickets each, while Fazle Mahmud grabbed one wicket.
