Man stabbed dead in Pabna
Pabna: A young man was stabbed to death by adversaries following a land dispute at Kulunia village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam, 25, son of Izaharul Islam of the same village.
Abu Obayed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said there had been a longstanding land dispute between former member Rabiul Islam and Monirul Islam.
As a sequel to the enmity, they locked in an altercation last night around 11 pm.
At one stage, Rabiul stabbed Monirul, leaving hgim critically injured. Later, he was taken to Pabna General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
Unidentified body recovered
Jhenidah: Police recovered the floating body of an unidentified woman from a pond near Mobarakganj railway station in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday morning, reports UNB.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station said that locals spotted the body of the woman, aged about 60, in the morning and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body. Locals said that the victim woman was mentally challenged.
Stress on ensuring safe feed to get hygienic poultry meat
RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion here stressed the need for ensuring safe feed and resisting high-powered antibiotics use to get best quality of poultry meat, reports BSS.
“Using unsafe feed and overrated antibiotic in poultry feed is harmful to public health. So, time has come to look into the matter with utmost emphasis,” they said.
The observations came at a meeting at Paba Upazila office’s conference hall of Department of Livestock Services (DLS) in the district recently.
Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organised the meeting in association with UKaid and British Council. An Issue-based project on “Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector in Bangladesh” supported it.
Chaired by CAB District unit Secretary Golam Mostofa Mamun, the discussion was addressed, among others, by District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain, Veterinary Surgeon Dr Khandaker Sagar Ahmed, District Poultry Association Secretary Enamul Haque, CAB Upazila President Kazi Nazmul Islam, Field Coordinator Amor Decosta and Field Officer Mohidul Hassan.
The discussants urged the government to allow local companies to produce poultry vaccines and arrange training on safe food for the farmers as well as the concerned officials. Dr Hossain said the lion’s share of chicken meat and eggs are being produced by the poultry industry which has also created job opportunities all over the country as well.
Gaibandha female workers receive TK 1.12 crore savings
GAIBANDHA: A total of 150 female workers in Sundarganj upazila of the district have got their savings over Taka 1.12 crore earned from the Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Programme (RERMP) in the last four years, reports BSS.
Local lawmaker Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari formally distributed the cheques for the savings to the beneficiary women at a function held in the conference room of the upazila administration as the chief guest.
Sources concerned said Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) implemented programme in all the 15 unions of the upazila from July 2014 to June 2018 with the fund provided by the government.
The objective of the programme was to alleviate poverty of the widow, divorced and distressed women through engaging themselves in income generating activities side by side with the development of the rural infrastructures.
Each of the female workers employed under the project received Taka 150 as daily wage.
Of the amount, Taka 100 was given to the beneficiary woman in cash and the rest money deposited with a joint account of the beneficiary and the executive engineer of LGED. In this way, the savings of every beneficiary stood at Taka 72,000 in last four years. On completion of the project, the officials of LGED took necessary measures to disburse the deposited savings among the beneficiaries.
LGED officials, public representatives, political leaders and journalists were present in the function.
