Criminals allegedly set fire to BKB College in Balashpur area of Mymensingh town early yesterday.
According to sources, two classrooms, an office room and furniture including benches and tables of the college were burnt in the fire around 2 am.
Important office documents and laboratory equipment were also burnt in the incident.
On information, fire fighters of Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after frantic effort of an hour.
College sources suspected that the incident might be a sequel to previous enmity. Some 170 first and second year students of the college could not sit for their pre-test and semester examinations yesterday as all 60 benches of the college were burnt, college
sources said.
Protesting the incident, students blocked Balashpur road for an hour, disrupting vehicular movement on the road. The students also formed a human chain in front of their college demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The incident is under police investigation to find out the actual clues behind the incident, said Md Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.
Abdul Jalil, principal of the college filed a general diary with Kotwali police station yesterday afternoon.
