A total of 34 teachers from different public and private universities will get UGC gold medals for their outstanding contribution to the fundamental research and publications on higher education.
Among them 18 teachers will get award for the year 2016 and 16 teachers for 2017.
The decision was taken at UGC Advisory Committee meeting held on Wednesday with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair.
In the meeting, the committee has changed the name of the award to UGC Gold Medal from UGC Award.
The UGC Gold Medal ceremony is expected to be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital in September. President Md Abdul Hamid is likely to hand over the prestigious medals among the university teachers as the chief guest.
Each of the selected teachers will get Tk 50, 000 for their book and Tk 30,000 for their article as honorium including the certificate and Gold Medal.
University Grants Commision introduced UGC Award (now UGC Gold Medal) in 1980 to encourage fundamental research and publications of university teachers.
