Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA organised a High-Level Leadership Seminar on Tobacco Control in Bangladesh in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control Cell and Bangladesh Center for Communication Programmes (BCCP) in a hotel in the capital on Thursday, says a press release.
The objectives of the seminar are develop a better understanding of the need for and benefits of tobacco control among the government and civil society leaders and enhance political support for tobacco control.
Member of parliament, secretaries, representatives from media agencies and civil society members participated at the seminar which follows a 6-day Tobacco Control Leadership Programme held in Cox’s Bazar from July 28. The seminar focused on building leadership capacity to develop effective tobacco control policy and interventions.

Professor Frank Chaloupka, University of Illinois-Chicago; Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary, member of parliament and Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed, visiting fellow, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, BRAC University attended the programme as the speakers chaired by Muhammad Ruhul Quddus, additional secretary (Budget), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
