President M Abdul Hamid yesterday urged the Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh (OSB) to provide eye treatment facilities for the poor and distressed across the country, reports BSS.
He made this call when a six-member delegation of OSB, led by Prof Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the capital yesterday, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said. The president suggested they conduct eye camps at different places in the country so the poor and distressed people can get eye treatment. He also asked the OSB members to continue the eye treatment campaign in rural and remote areas to create awareness among the common people.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised President Hamid of the activities of OSB and invited him to attend its upcoming international conference as the chief guest.
Secretaries concerned to the president were present.
Another reports adds: Chairperson of BRAC and Board of Trustees of BRAC University Sir Fazle Hasan Abed called on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday afternoon.
During the call on, the president was apprised by Sir Abed of the overall activities of the BRAC and the BRAC University (BRACU), President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
Noting that the BRAC is playing a vital role in developing country’s socio-economic condition, Sir Abed informed the President that the BRAC is also working for the development of the Haor regions in a coordinated way and also conducting various research activities.
