A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday served a legal notice asking Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan to explain in 24 hours under what authority he has been holding the post of executive president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation along with holding a constitutional post.
Advocate Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan sent the legal notice through the registry post office asking him to reply to the notice within 24 hours. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against him by filing a writ petition with the High Court, Bhuiyan told reporters after sending the notice.
In the legal notice, it was mentioned that holding the office of executive president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (BSPSF) is contradictory to the constitution of the republic. Shajahan Khan has been elected a member of parliament unopposed in the election held on January 5, 2014 and he took oath as a minister on January 12 the same year, according to the notice. As a minister he cannot hold the post of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, as this organisation is a collective bargaining agency (CBA), legal notice said.
As a minister, Shajahan Khan’s being elected as the executive president of BSPSF is against the constitution and morally questionable, according to the notice.
