Pacer Shafiul starts rehab after injury

Fast-bowler Shafiul Islam began his rehabilitation with light practice work at the gymnasium of the BCB-National Cricket Stadium (NCA) in Mirpur yesterday.

Shafiul sustained injury on his right ankle while fielding at a practice session on July 12 before the second and last Test of the two-match series, where Bangladesh tasted a nightmarish loss to the hosts West Indies before winning the one-day international series 2-1.

The 28-year-old paceman, who played so far 11 Tests along with 56 one-day and 12 T20 internationals before being broken into international cricket in 2010, said that he starts practicing with light work after being felt well.

“I feel quite well and so I begin my practice with light work. I came here yesterday (Tuesday) but today I first started practicing,” said Shafiul Islam.

BCB chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury said that Shafiul needed at least six weeks to be healed completely.

“After being rested for the last two weeks, Shafiul started his main rehab with light practice. He has no pain on his ankle at this moment. His recuperation will depend on how he gets progress. But he has needed six weeks to be recuperated from his injury,” Dr Debashish told The Independent over mobile phone.
