IU to cancel evening courses

KUSHTIA: The Islamic University (IU) authority has decided to stop all the evening courses of the university with a view to give more attention to the main stream courses and students, an IU press release said on Sunday night.

The decision came at the 113th academic council of the university held at the conference room of the administrative building with IU VC Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair. Pro-VC prof M Shahinoor rahman, Treasurer professor Dr M Selim Toha and deans, chairmen and members of the academic council were present.

The meeting was conducted by acting registrar of the university SM Abdul Latif, the release added. Contacted, VC Rashid Askari said the decision was taken to give more attention to the main stream courses (Honors, Masters, MPhil and PhD) and students as there are shortage of teachers in the university.

The decision will be effective after the approval at the university’s syndicate meeting.

Orientation for Chinese students held at SEU

Southeast University (SEU) organised an orientation programme for newly admitted fifteen Chinese students from Yunnan Minzu University in Bangla department on the university campus at Tejgaon in the capital on Tuesday, says a press release.

Presided over by Prof ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of SEU, the ceremony was attended by Madam Yang Yuanchun, wife of Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo, as the chief guest.  

M Kamaluddin Chowdhury, representative member of Board of Trustees, SEU Trust, was the guest of honour.

Prof Lu Fang, deputy dean, Yunnan Minzu University and Feng Xiaorong, secretary general of the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh, were present as special guests at the programme. Among others, officers from Embassy of China, Members of BoT, SEUT, pro-vice chancellor, registrar,deans, chairmen, directors, teachers, officials, members of OCAIB and students of SEU were also present in the programme.

At the end of the discussion, a cultural program was organised with the participation of students of both the universities.
