Terming the police's attitude towards the protesting students in the capital as totally unacceptable, Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) has urged the administration to take necessary steps to stop it immediately, reports UNB.
The right body made the urge in a statement issued yesterday. ASK also expressed its deep concern over the attacks on the students made by the transport workers at Narayanganj yesterday morning.
It said, “We came to know that the transport workers attacked and beat the protesting students of different schools and colleges in Mouchak area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, which is very unfortunate.”
Mentioning about the increasing rate of road accidents, ASK also said “The behavior of the law enforcement agencies towards the students, who are demanding to ensure safety in the streets, is not acceptable at all.”
They also asked the law enforcers to be more responsible in their actions and called the government to take steps to increase road safety. Mentionable, two students were killed and 12 others injured when a rash driver ploughed through passengers on a footpath near Radisson Hotel on Airport Road in the capital on Sunday. Irate students vandalised the bus and blockaded the road after the incident. As a result, there was tremendous traffic congestion on the road.
Angry locals nabbed the errant bus driver and handed him over to Cantonment Police Station shortly after the mishap. At least 50 buses were vandalised by angry fellows.
