Shariatpur: The vice-chairman of Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Parishad was sent to jail on Monday for corruption committed by copying the signature of a former chairman of the upazila parishad, reports UNB.
The convict was identified as Alamgir Hossain Hawladar, the vice-chairman and Health and Family planning affairs secretary of the district unit Awami League.
Kaniz Fatema Ropa, Chief Judicial Magistrate of the district court, passed the order rejecting the bail petition of the vice-chairman.
According to the prosecution, Alamgir received Tk 5 lakh from a trader, Abdur Raof Bepari of the municipality, by promising to sanction a shop at a market in Palongbazar in the municipality in 2017.
Later, the trader filed a case with Palong Model Police Station against the vice-chairman accusing that he copied the signature of the then upazila chairman Abdur Rab Munshi and grabbed the said amount of money from him.
Later, police submitted charge sheet to the court accusing Alamgir.
On Monday, the court sent him to jail after the vice-chairman appealed for bail after appearing before the court.
