One held with yaba from cop’s house
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a man along with 15,000 yaba tablets from the rented house of a sub-inspector in Paschim Bakalia area of the city early yesterday. The arrestee was identified as Nazim Uddin Millat, 30.
Based on secret information, a RAB team raided the house of sub-inspector Khandaker Saifuddin of Bakalia Police Station around 12:30 am and recovered the yaba tablets, saidMimtanurRahman, senior assistant director of RAB-7. Later, they arrested Millat in this connection.
However, Saifuddin was not present at his house during the raid. He rented the house in Hafeznagar for yaba trading, said the RAB official.
Bangla Academy launches online library
Bangla Academy has introduced online library with the slogan ‘Sobar Jonnyo Gyean’ (knowledge for all) aiming at facilitating the readers of reading one lakh pages of different rare books through online.
“Readers can read the pages and download e-books from the online library browsing website www.library.banglaacademy.org.bd,” Bangla Academy deputy director (library) Sarker Amin told BSS.
About 90,000 pages have already been uploaded on the website while the remaining 10,000 pages will be uploaded soon, he said. Bangla Academy director general Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan said the online library has been launched as all the activities of the academy are being digitalised keeping pace with the country’s digital activities to build ‘Digital Bangladesh’.
National Mourning Day programme
Different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes in Khulna city on August 15 to observe the National Mourning Day and 43th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
District administration held a meeting at its conference room in this regard with deputy commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan in the chair. The programmes include hoisting of national flag at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, mourning procession, discussion, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, distribution of leaflets and posters, screening of films on life and works of Bangabandhu, and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious institutions.
Abdul Mannan Khan’s death anniversary today
Today is the 9th death anniversary of the founder president of Al-Quds Committee of Bangladesh Professor A N M Abdul Mannan Khan, former Chairman, Department of Arabic, University of Dhaka, says a press reelase.
All have been requested to pray for the salvation of the departed soul.
