Emboldened by the ODI series victory over West Indies, Bangladesh look to pose a stiff challenge to the home side in the T20 series, a format which the Caribbeans always find particularly to their likings. The three-match series in the shortest format of the game was scheduled to begin at St Kitts at 6.30 (BST) this morning. The last two matches will be held in Florida, USA, a venue in which Bangladesh will play any cricket game for the first time. While West Indies are known to play the format with more flamboyance and currently the world champions, Bangladesh are vulnerable and still find a way to thrive in the format. But the series victory over West Indian in ODI format could provide the necessary fuel. The victory in 2-1 margin was Bangladesh first series victory outside of Asia after 2009. Even though, Bangladesh got a wicket like Bangladesh in Guyana and St Kitts, their convincing win over West Indies, specially after being pummeled to the two-match Test series was praiseworthy. The seniors took the onus, under the leadership of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza although the juniors couldn’t justify their worth. With Mashrafe already retiring for the T20 format, Shakib Al Hasan will lead the side, hoping the youngsters will put behind their horror performance in both Test and ODI series to excel in T20 format.
“We are very hopeful about the T20 series, specially after our series victory in ODI, which was the first time outside Asia since 2009. I hope the players get the necessary fuel from the victory and would show their credential,” Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said ahead of the first T20.
Much to the relief for Bangladesh, Chris Gayle who hinted to get back his killer instinct was rested from the T20 series. However another big-hitter Andre Russel who is also a useful bowler in T20 format was back into the side, after missing last ODI against Bangladesh.
