Christchurch will experience a spectacular summer cricket showdown as the Blackcaps gear up to play Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, reports Scoop Independentnews.com.
The city has won its bid to host the Blackcaps for a Boxing Day Test match against Sri Lanka as well as a One Day International (ODI) and a Test match against Bangladesh.
Christchurch NZ General Manager of Destination and Attraction Loren Heaphy says Christchurch’s strong cricket connection and extraordinary venue at Hagley Oval makes our city the perfect place to host international cricket games.
“Canterbury is the birthplace of many cricketing legends and we are very excited to welcome the Blackcaps, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka back to Christchurch,” Ms Heaphy says.
“We’ve got an action-packed summer on its way and these matches are a great opportunity for Christchurch residents and our visitors to be part of some of the most exciting international cricket events of the summer.”
“It’s also been the scene for some riveting short-form games - which I’m sure will continue with the ODI against Bangladesh.”
Meanwhile, Dunedin will have a taste of international cricket in the coming season when the Black Caps take on Bangladesh in a one-dayer at the University of Otago Oval in February.
The match is on the 2018/19 season’s fixtures list, released today by New Zealand Cricket.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20.
In a press release, Dunedin Venues said a sell-out crowd was expected, and it was hoped the weather would play its part in the occasion.
Dunedin Venues CEO Terry Davies said he was excited for his team to again be a part of delivering international cricket to southern fans.
“Everyone had a great time at the matches earlier this year and we expect next February’s one day international will be another fantastic day out.”

Feb 20: Third ODI, Dunedin
