The army chief, General Aziz Ahmed, started a six-day trip to the country’s first neighbour, India, yesterday during which he will hold meetings with high-level dignitaries and visit important military installations. This will be his first overseas visit since he took over the office of chief of army staff on June 26.
General Aziz Ahmed, BGBM, PBGM, BGBMS, psc, Chief of Army Staff(CAS), Bangladesh Army is visiting India from 31 July to 05 Aug 2018 on his first foreign visit after assuming office,” said a press release issued by the Indian High Commission yesterday. “The CAS will be meeting high ranking dignitaries of India and will visit important military installations at Agra, Lucknow and Deolali,” it said.
“At Deolali, the CAS will visit his alma-mater, School of Artillery, Deolali. The CAS had undergone Long Gunnery Staff Course at the institution during 1992-1993,” it added.
Prior to the visit of the CAS, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla paid a courtesy call on him on June 29 at army headquarters, said the press release. The visit of CAS to India will help strengthen mutual trust with immediate neighbourhood particularly in the field of defence cooperation, it said.
