Quader urges students to stay clam

Staff Reporter

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader yesterday appealed to agitating students to calm down and return to their classes. He said the culprits responsible for the death of two students on Sunday would be brought to book. “Please don’t misunderstand the government. We are committed to punishing the student killers,” Quader, who is also the Awami League (AL) general secretary, told reporters at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office. On Sunday, Dia Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, were killed after a Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed through a crowd while competing with another bus of the same company on Airport Road.

Aggrieved over the deaths, students went on a rampage immediately and vandalised buses on the road. The violent agitation continued for the whole day yesterday.
