Sylhet set to become eighth Test venue in Bangladesh

Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SCIS) will carve its name as the Test venue after hosting T20 internationals when Bangladesh will host their Zimbabwean counterparts in the next October.

The tea-garden girt stadium will be the country’s eighth Test venue after Bangabandhu National Stadium-the then Dhaka Stadium (1955), MA Aziz Stadium (2001), Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (2006), Shaheed Chandu Stadium (2006), Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium (2006), Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (2007) and Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (2012).

The SCIS, earlier hosted a good number of T20 Internationals, this time will be hosted the opening Test of the two-Test series, starting from November 3-7.  

Zimbabwe are scheduled to arrive here on October 16, five days before the main games of their Bangladesh tour to play two-match Test series along with three-ODI series against the hosts Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meanwhile announced the itinerary for the Zimbabwe cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh-2018, the series comprises of two-Tests along with three one-day internationals.

As per the itinerary, the tour between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will open with the one-day, which will be day-night affair and end with Test.

The first one-day will be hosted by Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on October 21 before hosting the second and last Test on November 11-15. They will play a 50-over practice match at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) in Savar on October 19 just two-day practice after their arrival.

The two teams will travel to Chattogram for the second and third matches of the ODI series which will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) on October 24 and 26 respectively.

Before stepping into the Test series, the tourists are supported to play a three-day practice match in the port city prior to traveling to Sylhet thought the venue for the one-off warm-up fixture to be confirmed yet.
