Online registration for DU admission tests begins July 31
The online application for admission into first year honours courses in different disciplines of Dhaka University (DU) under the 2018-19 academic session will begin on July 31. The admission tests will begin on September 14 next, a DU press release said yesterday. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman will formally inaugurate the application process at 5:30 pm tomorrow at the central admission office at administrative building on the campus. Admission seekers can apply online from 5:30 pm on July 31 while the process will continue till 12 am on August 26. The admission tests will begin on September 14 with entry test of Business Studies faculty disciplines under “Ga-Unit” while admission test of general knowledge for Fine Arts Faculty under “Cha-Unit” on September 15. The test of “Kha-Unit” for admission into different disinclines under Arts and Social Sciences faculties will be held on September 21 while admission test of drawing for Fine Arts Faculty under “Cha-Unit” on September 22. “Ka-Unit” admission test for science group students will be held on September 28 and “Gha-Unit” (combined unit) tests for science, business studies and humanities groups’ students will be held on October 12.
11 DU students get PM Gold Medal
A total of 11 students of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded with the Prime Minister’s (PM) Gold Medal-2017 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in recognition of their outstanding results. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the gold medals among the DU students at Shapla Hall at her office on July 25 last at the prize giving ceremony, a DU press release said yesterday.
The awardees are: Umme Sumaiya of Theater and Performance Studies Department , Md Sharif Hossain of Mathematics Department, Nasrin Akhter of Law Department, Rasheda Akhtar Rupa of Management Information Systems Department, Shah Md Azimul Ehsan of Public administration Department, Pausali Saha of Pharmacy Department, Md Mahmudul Hasan of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department, Tamanna Mehran Shimu of Geology Department, Md Samiul Islam of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Harendranath Roy of Oriental Art Department, Maisha Samiha Hossain of Medicine and Surgery Department. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman attended the function. A total of 163 students from different universities (both public and private) got Prime Minister’s Gold Medal in 2017. The Prime Minister Gold Medal was introduced in 2005 as an effort to encourage talented students of the country’s universities.
Nat’l Campus Journalism Fest ends at SUST
Sylhet: The two-day long 'National Campus Journalism Fest'concluded at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon. Renowned writer and educationist Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, who has long taught at SUST, inaugurated the program scheduled to start at 10:30am on Friday. After the inaugural ceremony, the first day's programme includes sequences oflearning session, views-exchanging, documentary exhibition, and campus roaming. SUST Press Club President Abdullah Al Mansur presided over the programme and the General Secretary Fayzullah Wasif coordinated it. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Prime Minister's media adviser and editor of the Daily Observer, as a guest and Vice Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, special guest Ekushey TV Chief Editor Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and some others were present. Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said the main reason for the lack of proper education in the universities and the future leadership are uncertain is that the election of the student leader in the universities is not regular. The student leaders' election can create a future leader of honest, courageous and strong leadership. The students who are involved in journalism on campus, they should be able to engage in journalism policy ethics, courage and independence to create journalism. And from that perspective, the upcoming Bangladesh will be built, he said. Around 200 Journalists from 22 universities under 27 journalists associations took part in university level, the two-day long festival fest for the first time.
