Farmer beaten dead in Jashore

Jashore: A farmer was beaten and hacked to death for refusing to give his cropland for a brick kiln in Manirampur upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Rahmatullah, 50, son of late Didar Box of Khodapara village of the upazila.

Relatives of the victim said that Abdur Rajjak and Makbul Hossain took the lease of a piece of land for setting up a brick kiln but they did not pay Rahmatullah in time.

Following it, Rahmatullah went to his land for cultivating it on July 12, but the lessors’aideshacked and beat him, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was admitted to Jessore General Hospital from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), they said.

After being treated at DMCH for about sixteen days, the victim succumbed to his injuries on Friday night, they added.
