Mominul-led ‘A Team’ leaves for Ireland

Bangladesh ‘A’ Team led by one-day captain Mominul Haque left Dhaka for Dublin, Ireland to play a five-match unofficial ODI series along with three-T20 series yesterday morning.

The series will open with one-day, which is scheduled to play at the Oak Hill Cricket Club (OHCC) ground in Wicklow on August 1 and end with T20 which will be held at Malahide Cricket Club (MCC) ground in Dublin on August 17.

The tour will be important for some players including Mohammad Mithun, Sunzamul Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed who all want to return to the national fold. Barring fast-bowler Taskin they all dropped from the national team owing to their poor run of performance.

But Bangladesh speedster, Taskin, missed the last two back-to-back series for his back strain. It’ll be challenging for him to back in the fold after being fit fully and well performance.

It’s a good sign that some promising young players the likes of Shariful Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Al Amin Jr, Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, Mizanur Rahman and Nayeem Hasan have been called for the tour, which is a good platform for them to step into the senior-level cricket.    

For Nurul Hasan Sohan and Mominul Haque, the tour will also be crucial to cement their respective positions in all the squad of the Tigers.
