At least eleven people were killed and ten others were wounded in separate road accidents in Barguna and Sylhet yesterday, reports UNB. Three of the deceased were identified as Salma Akhter, 35, an assistant teacher of Tarikata Government Primary School, Shanu Hawladar, 40, and Chan Mia, 55, of the Amtoli upazila. Nurul Islam Badal, officer-in-charge of Amtoli Police Station of Barguna, said the accident took place around 11am when a Barguna-bound bus of 'Allalh Bharasha Paribahan' from Kuakata hit a human hauler coming from opposite direction, leaving six passengers of the human hauler dead on the spot and four others injured.
Later, the injured were taken to a local hospital where another victim succumbed to his injuries, said the OC. In another incident a truck collided head-on with a microbus at Ilashpur in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet. Officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station Ali Mahmud said the Sylhet-bound truck collided with Dhaka-bound microbus, leaving four people dead on the spot and injuring seven others around 4 pm.
Local Fire Service and Civil Defence men conducted the rescue operation, he said.
The injured were taken to a local hospital, said the OC.
