The High Court (HC) yesterday extended the bail order to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia till July 31. The HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman issued the order following a petition filed by Khaleda seeking an extension of her bail.
On February 8, the special judge’s court-5 of Dhaka had convicted and sentenced Khaleda to five years’ imprisonment in the corruption case. The case was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). It had also sentenced Khaleda’s eldest son, Tarique Rahman, and four others to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined them Tk 2.10 crores each.
On February 20, Khaleda Zia filed an appeal with the HC, challenging the trial court verdict. On March 12, the HC granted four months' bail to her.
