Workshop on live, studio & broadcast sound management begins in city

A two-week workshop on live, studio & broadcast sound management titled ‘Practicing Professional Sound’ began at the Omni Music premises in Dhanmondi of the capital on Sunday morning.

Gabriel Grote, a noted recording and mixing engineer from the Erich-Thienhaus-Institut of the Music University of Detmold in Germany is conducting the workshop.

Organized by Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, in cooperation with Omni Music, the objective of the course is to enhance and upgrade local sound management skills by giving insights in theoretical and practical fundamental audio techniques. The participants may learn theoretical basics, train their ears, look at hands-on projects for live sound, studio recording, sound design, post-production and more.

Welcoming the sound professionals, Dr Kirsten Hackenbroch, Director of Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, expressed her optimism about the outcome of the workshop and said, ‘‘We are happy to have come up with a format catering for the training needs of both professional sound engineers as well as newcomers to the field”.

Neo G Mendes of Omni Music, envisaged that a course of this professional level, being a first for Bangladesh, will enable raising of knowledge levels, resulting in high quality sound management, creating jobs in the current high demand local and international markets.

To note, Gabriel Grote is also working as a recording and mixing engineer for score music. He recorded for Deutsche Grammophon the Hollywood production “Libertador” in Venezuela, which was submitted for the Oscars. In Germany, he regularly recorded and mixed score music for Annette Focks and also worked for international productions, like the French production ‘Holy Motors’ (Leos Carax). Since 2010, Gabriel Grote teaches music production and sound design at the SRH University of Popular Arts in Berlin.
