Celebration stage gutted in BAU fire
Mymensingh: A fire gutted the stage built for the celebration of the 57th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Saturday night.
President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to attend the programme as the chief guest on Sunday.
The fire broke out around 11:45 pm while the decoration works were going on near the administration building on the campus, according to eyewitnesses.
On information, six firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire around 12:45 am, said Shahidur Rahman, deputy director of Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Fire service officials primarily suspected that the fire was generated from an electric short circuit.
BUET features unmanned boat race
Remote controlled boat race, organised by the department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of Buet, has transformed into a sustainable competition inspiring students to combine their knowledge of electronics and ship design.
The recently arranged competition, Model Ship Propulsion Competition (MSPC), at the Dhaka University Swimming Pool has been featured for the second time. This year the competition aligns around the theme, Race for Glory. The future engineers of Buet had to care about the mazes the model ships had to navigate through - in addition to the time of travel!
The inter-university competition was preceded by workshops and selection processes spanning nearly a month.
VikingS++ from SUST became the champion, while Team Alpheus from BUET the 1st runners up Drift from BUET, BRACU Aquaswift from Brac University 2nd runners up.
Entrepreneurs story at IU July 31
Kushtia: Durbar Bangladesh is going to organize a program titled Hark the Entrepreneurs story at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on 31 July at Birsrestho Hamidur Rahman Auditorium on the campus.
Three Major companies of the country will join into the program. There will be an opportunity to apply for job for these companies on that event.
The organization is working tirelessly for collaborating, learning, teaching and developing the students personal and educational skills. It organizes various programmes, workshops, seminars, educational programs, summit, Festivals and financial and educational aid to the students to produce skilled manpower for the country. Already, its activities have started in different universities and outside the country in Germany.
IU vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari will be present as the chief guest and pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha will attend as the special guests.
The registered students of the event will get an opportunity to submit their CVs for these companies as well.
Creative writing and storytelling workshop held at NDUB
A day-long workshop on Creative Writing and Storytelling, organzied by Notre Dame University Bangladesh English Club (NDUBEC), was held on Saturday on Notre Dame University premises. The workshop was categorized in three sessions: Screenplay Writing, Literary Writing , and Graphic Storytelling.
NDUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Fr Patrick Daniel Gaffney was present as chief guest, NDUB Registrar and Chairman, Department of English Fr Adam S Pereira was the special guest in the event.
The best 10 writings will be published in national dailies and NDUB English Club online magazine. The best cartoons will be published in NDUB English Club online magazine.
The curtain was drawn by honoring the guests who conducted the workshop, as well as the participants were provided certificates for their youthful enthusiasm and active participation.
