Police in a drive arrested a government medical officer and two of his associates along with 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets from a saw mill in Zia Road area of Mirpur municipality area of the district on Sunday night. The arrestees were identified as Asaduzzaman Firoj, 33, a medical officer of Kushtia Chest Disease Hospital, Jaynal Abedin Jay, 32, a resident of Chak Krisnapur village of Daulatpur upazila in the district, and Naharul Islam Malitha, 33, the owner of Malitha Saw Mill and a resident of ward no-4 of the municipality. Officer-in-charge of Mirpur police station Kazi Jalal Uddin said based on secrete information, police conducted a drive at the area and arrested the trio along with 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets. In another incident, police in a drive arrested a drug peddler along with 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets at Gazipur village in Benapole on Sunday.
