Ershad lists govt failures at party meet
Jatiya Party (JP) chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad

Jatiya Party (JP) chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has accused the government of failing to meet the needs of the people.
Commoners are now afraid to go to the market due to the excessive rise in prices of all essential commodities, the former president said in Khulna yesterday. He was speaking as the chief guest at the biennial conference of JP’s Khulna district unit at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city’s Sadar police station area.

Ershad asked his party leaders and activists to work relentlessly so that the JP could meet the people’s demand for a change in future. “When the two political arch rivals, Awami League and BNP, are busy locking horns with each other, there is no alternative to Jatiya Party,” he added.
Incidentally, JP is a major ally of the AL-led Grand Alliance.
Ershad urged the government to clean up politics and fight against social evils. “In my nine years of successful rule, there was no politics over tenders, terrorism or extortion in the country. My tenure was full of development and peace. If the government can eradicate these evils, the country can surely become prosperous,” he added.
JP secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, water resources minister and JP presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud, JP presidium members Md Sahidur Rahman and Md Taj Rahman, central committee vice-chairman and president of JP’s Khulna city unit Md Abul Hossain and senior joint secretary general Rezaul Islam Bhuiwan were present as special guests.
Sunil Shuvo Roy, convener of the district unit council organising committee, presided over the function. Shafiqul Islam Modhu, central committee joint secretary general and also convener (acting) of the Khulna district unit, conducted the meeting.
The organisers claimed that around 5,000 delegates, including 781 district committee councillors, attended the conference.
