Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, who was undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital, died yesterday morning. He was 70.
He breathed his last around 9 am at the hospital, said the minister’s personal officer Abdul Kadir Pervez told UNB.
Mohsin Ali is survived by wife, three daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Syed Mohsin Ali was taken to Singapore on September 5 with life support for better treatment as he suffered a heart attack.
The minister was admitted to Birdem Hospital in Dhaka on September 3 with various complications, including pneumonia and kidney problems. He was on life support at the hospital.
The following day, he suffered a heart attack while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and was kept under mechanical ventilation since then.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Mohsin Ali. In a condolence message, the president said Syed Mohsin Ali was a dedicated and patriotic politician.
“Through the death, the countrymen have lost a popular politician. He had worked for the welfare of the mass people. His death is an irreparable loss for the nation,” he said.
In another condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said, “With the death of Syed Mohsin Ali, the nation has lost an honest and patriotic politician. He has devoted his whole political career towards ensuring the welfare of common people.” They also prayed for eternal peace of the dearth soul.
