Robber’s throat-silt body found in Naogaon
Naogaon: Police recovered the throat-silt body of the ring leader of a robber gang from Amantokhari area of Patnitala upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain Monnaf, 52, son of Jahir Uddin, a resident Koibtyokhanda village in Shihara union of the upazila and the ringleader of an inter-district robber gang.
Md Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Patnitala Police station, said locals spotted the throat-silt body on Anwar in the morning and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body.
Police suspected Monnaf was murdered following internal rivalry.
The OC said that Monnaf was arrested in 1995 and sentenced to life term jail in an arms case. Later, he was freed from jail in 2014.
2 Indian citizens held with gold, money in Benapole
Jashore: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two Indian nationals along with gold ornaments weighing 450 grams and cash money from bordering Amrakhali area here yesterday, reports UNB.
The detainees are Sudir Chao, 35, son of Hira Chao of Sonapur Jagatipota area in Kolakata, and Sadananda, 27, son of Ramprashad Rao of Basubo in Howrah.
Tipped-off that two Indian nationals would smuggle gold and cash into India from Bangladesh through Benapole border, a BGB team conducted a drive in the bordering area at noon and detained the two Indian citizens on suspicion, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49.
Later, gold ornaments weighing 450 grams, Tk 20 lakh and 2,630 Indian Rupees were recovered from their possession, he said.
The detainees were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station and a case was filed, the BGB official added.
Female construction worker stabbed dead in Bagura
Bagura: A female construction worker was stabbed to death by miscreants at Kalikapur in Nandigram upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Kironi, 45, wife of Suresh Chandra of the village.
A group of miscreants swooped on the house of Kironi around 12 am and stabbed her indiscriminately in her sleep, leaving her injured, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Nandigram Police Station.
She was taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 4 am. Police arrested Suresh Chandra in this connection.
The motive behind the killing could not be known yet.
Heroin seized in C’nawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 500 grams of heroin from frontier Hakimpur area under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila last night.
Commanding officer (CO) of 53 battalion of BGB Lieutenant Colonel Sajjad Sarwar said, acting on detective information, a patrol team of BGB from Hakimpur border outpost raided the aforesaid area around 10:30 pm and found the heroin in five poly bags in an abandoned room.
Later, the heroin was deposited with the Narcotics Control Department, he said.
Assistant loco master of Jayantika Express injured
Brahmanbaria: Assistant loco master of Jayantika Express train was severely injured in an attack by some miscreants in Brahmanbaria on Thursday, reprots UNB.
The victim Md Ali Hossain was admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital soon after the attack, which took place at Brahmanbaria Ral Station.
Railway sources said Ali locked into an altercation with some young men while on trip break at Dhaka Airport Rail Station over boarding the train.
Later, a group of miscreants swooped on while his train reached at the rail station around 2:30pm, leaving him severely injured.
Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Quamrul Islam said following the incident, the train was stuck at the station for 3 hours, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
