The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday conducted a drive at the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) after receiving an allegation that physicians were compelled to pay bribe for getting their certificates, reports BSS.
“We have sent a team of ACC to the BMDC after taking the allegation of physicians into cognizance. The drive will help to improve the situation of the BMDC the days to come,” said Director General (admin) of ACC Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.
He also warned of taking actions by conducting ‘trap cases’ if bribery continues at the BMDC.
An enforcement team of the ACC made the sudden visit to the BMDC office at Bijoynagar in the capital this afternoon after receiving an allegation on its hotline ‘106’.
During the drive, they found systematic fault in distributing certificates among the physicians which encourages unscrupulous officials of the BMDC to take bribe to this end.
The team members later met registrar and deputy registrar of the BMDC and informed them of the matter and requested them to take effective measures to stop irregularities in the organisation.
Anti-graft leaflets and stickers relating to ACC hotline have been distributed among the physicians to create awareness among them.
