‘Environmental Law Moot Court Competition 2018 was held at Eastern University from July 12 to 14. The competition was jointly organised by Eastern University and Strategy for Environmental Development (SED) Foundation, in collaboration with Eastern University Moot Court Society, says a press release.
Twenty-two public and private universities from various districts of Bangladesh participated in the event, making it the largest national-level moot court competition. University of Chittagong emerged as the champion, beating Jahangirnagar University.
Tasmiah Juthi from East West University, Morsalin Hider from University of Asia Pacific and Jahangirnagar University mooting team received the ‘Best Researcher’, ‘Best Mooter’ and ‘Best Memorial’ awards respectively.
Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, both judges of the High Court Division of Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, chief executive of BELA (Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association), were the adjudicators of the final round. Mohammed Javed Rasin, founder and president of the SED Foundation, and Aminul Hoque, vice chancellor of Eastern University, and M Zahurul Haq, dean of the university’s law faculty were also present.
