Businessman Enamul taken on 2-day remand

A Chittagong court yesterday sent RMG businessman, Enamul Haque, on two-day remand under the Anti-Terrorism Act in a case filed at the Hathazari police station. Senior Judicial Magistrate, Mahamudul Hasan, passed the order when the Rapid Action Battalion-7 produced him in the court, seeking five-day remand in connection with a case that was filed following a raid on a training camp of a militant outfit in Hathazari upazila on February 19 this year.
Earlier, on September 6, after five-day remand in a case filed at the Banskhali police station, he is reported to have recorded his confessional statement under section 164. On September 5, RAB-7 arrested Enamul, Director of Golden Touch Apparels from the Tiongi area in the capital on charges of funding the Shaheed Hamza Brigade militant outfit. Later, he was shown arrested in another case filed at the Banskhali police station in connection with a raid on a training camp of the militant outfit in the Lotmoni Hill area in Banskhali.
When contacted, Abul Hashem, public prosecutor of Chittagong district, said that members of RAB-7 appeared before the court with a plea to interrogate Enamul for five days. After hearing the plea, the court granted two-day remand.
Sources said that the court wanted to know Enamul’s statement regarding funding of the militant outfit that he gave earlier. The businessman told the court that he deposited the money in an account as part of a business transaction and denied funding any militant outfit. The police in a raid on Al Madrashatul Abu Bakar in Hathazari on February 19 arrested 12 people and unearthed the Shaheed Hamza Brigade, which is a newly formed militant outfit.
