Income tax collection in Barisal up 49pc in five years

The collection of income tax in Barisal taxation division has increased by 49 per cent in last five years while the number of tax payers has gone up by 45 per cent during the same period, the local tax division said in a statement recently.
According to the official of the division, the income tax authority collected Tk 204.10 crore in the last one year against the target of Tk 176 crore which is the highest in last five years.
The division achieved the highest tax collection in the last one year. The income tax zone collected Tk 502.66 crore during the period of 2010-14, down by Tk 48.66 crore from the target of Tk 550.
Also, the number of tax payers increased by 15,163 in last five years. Number of tax payers was 60,250 in the FY 2009-2010 while the number was 61057 in FY 2010-2011, 62517 in FY 2011-2012, 63065 in FY 2012-2013, 69656 in FY 20132-2014 and 75,413 in FY 2014-2015.
Local tax office, this year collected Tk 204.10 crore and it set a new target of Tk 225 crors for the current fiscal year.
Local tax payers want a hassle free tax collection system was well as they demanded an advisory center and friendly environment in the office.
This year Barisal Income Tax department and payers chalked out different programmes in observance of the National Income Tax Day today.
The programme included colorful rally, reception and distribution of crest and certificate to the 14 long term and 21 highest income tax payers of Barisal City Corporation and six districts of the division.
