Stocks gain for 3rd straight session

Key share price indices at the country’s twin bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnesses gain yesterday, reports UNB.
The DSE benchmark index, DSEX gained 17.89 points or 0.38 per cent to close at 4786.19 on the day. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES
were also up by 4.02 and 1.27 points to finish
day at 1824.92 and 1175.46 respectively. Of the 322 issues traded, 145 gained, 138 declined and 39 remained unchanged.
Shares worth Tk 437.02 crore changed hands at the DSE yesterday as against Tk 457.54 crore on Sunday.
Observing the day’s market activities, IDLC Finance said, “Market continued its slow movement with distributed focus on multiple scrips yesterday; few of the MNCs are rallying and pushing index up while majority of other scrips are stalled.”
The stockbroker also said, “In addition power grid company of Bangladesh made a strong move gaining 9.8 per cent yesterday on the news of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission’s (BERC) increase of transmission tariff for the company; nevertheless, the broad market was stoic as usual for now.”
The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, EXIM Bank 1st Mutual Fund, Popular Life Insurance, 7th ICB Mutual Fund, Purabi General Insurance, Islami Bank, Saif Powertec, Reliance Insurance, IFIL Islamic Mutual Fund-1 and Standard Insurance.
The top five turnover leaders at the DSE were Beximco Pharma, Lafarge Surma Cement, Aman Feed, Square Pharmaceuticals and United Airways.
Top five losers at the premier bourse were Imam Button, Usmania Glass, Rahima Food, Monno Jute Stafflers and Monno Ceramic.
The CSE key index, CASPI gained 58.43 points to reach 14632.96 at close yesterday. Of the 251 issues traded, 101 advanced, 114 suffered loss and 36 remained unchanged.
The value of the traded issues at the CSE was Tk 27.85 crore on the day.
