Call to work together to cope with climate change impacts

Experts at a seminar yesterday stressed maintaining harmony and working together to cope with climate change impacts in the South Asia region, reports BSS. They observed that the South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, should take necessary measures to face extreme climate events since the region is highly vulnerable to climate change.

SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) jointly organised the seminar titled, ‘A Climate Resilient South Asia: Turning Climate Smart

Investment Opportunities into Reality’ at a hotel in the capital. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and SAARC CCI President Ruwan Edirisinghe attended the inaugural session of the seminar with FBCCI President M Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) in the chair.

Speaking as the chief guest, Anisul Islam Mahmud said Bangladesh has adopted many effective measures to face the growing climatic treats as it is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change.

 “Bangladesh has also developed proper technology to face the wchallenges of climate change,” he said.

Shafiul Islam said climate change has emerged as one of the greatest developmental challenges for the 21st century.

He said: “As the business community, we have been gearing up our efforts towards developing renewable energy, building green and environmentally friendly factories, and developing economic zones incorporating waste management system.”
