Gazipur: Local people set a bus on fire on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Bhogra in the city protesting the death of a female garment worker following a road accident in the area on Saturday, reports UNB. Monowara Khatun, 22, a worker of Capital Design, hailing from Sherpur district, was killed when a bus of 'Basumoti Paribahan' hit her while crossing the road near Barsha Cinema Hall in the area around 8:30 pm, said Sub-inspector Jakir Hossain, in-charge of Shahid Tajuddin Medical College Hospital police camp.
Angered by the accident, local people and workers of different garments factory caught the bus and set it on fire.
On information, two firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts, said the SI.
Traffic movement on the busy road remained suspended for about half an hour following the incident.
However, police brought the situation under control.
