‘A Team’ taste innings defeat to SL ‘A Team’
Shehan Jayasuriya named player of the match

Following the footsteps of the national side, Bangladesh A team batsmen put a wretched batting show to concede three-match unofficial Test series by 1-0 to Sri Lanka A team after being beaten by an innings and 38 runs in the third and final match yesterday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The innings defeat came inside three days as Bangladesh began the third day with 57 for one, with an aim to put a shed on the disastrous first innings outing to take a considerable lead. They instead tasted a sensational collapse and were able to just 50 runs for the rest of the nine wickets to be bowled out for 107 in their second innings in the morning session of the day. That confirmed their shameful defeat in the four-dayer match in just two and half days.

What would hurt the second string Bangladesh more that all of the top order batsmen got a start but none of them carried the innings. The highest 28 runs came from the willow of opener Soumya Sarkar, while his fellow opener Shadman Islam made 19 runs.

Saif Hasan scored 17 while Mizanur Rahman contributed 13 in the ill-fated game, in which Bangladesh targeted a victory to win the series after the first two matches ended in a draw. But the Sri Lanka A side had the last laugh.

Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming six for 46 runs. He ended the match haul of nine for 94, after his three for 48 in the first innings.

The visitors put them in commanding position, racking up 312 before being all out. Shehan Jayasuriya who was finally adjudged man of the match was instrumental, hitting 142 runs. The score was big considering the visitors wrapped up Bangladesh A for 167 in the first innings earlier and thereby took 145 runs lead. Bangladesh may avoid the innings defeat but such was the performance that they ended up losing match in innings margin.
