Fighting terrorism and corruption

We cannot improve politics as well as political culture just by criticising it or just by writing opinion articles

Fighting terrorism and corruption

It is a momentum when the country has reached to the status of developing country, acknowledged by United Nations, and middle-income country, attributed by the World Bank. The nation hasstepped ahead towards development to the sustainable development in line with the global paradigm of development. It has further celebrated the success of ICT revolution to satellite route. The Honorable Prime Minister of the country becomes the prominent global leader. She is running with the vision of her father as well as the nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She is walking through the path, wisdom and political philosophy of the father of the nation prescribed.  And so, she has taken the country to a new height, and will continue to reach the peak – ‘Building UP a Sonar Bangla’, the dream of the father of the nation.

In this endeavor, there are many challenges, but the pressing facts are terrorism, drug abusing, and corruption as well as social oppressions. Theoretically all are the global problems as well as national challenges. The Prime Minister of the country addressed the foremost problems rightly. She firmly led fighting against terrorism at the national level and raised voice for the global cooperation in this regard. She directed law enforcing agency of the country now to focus on the second concern. As it is more sophisticated in nature, it requires comprehensive initiatives e.g. global movement towards gradually root out production, strictly contending against lead importers, social movement against drug abusing, youth education and awareness campaign, ingenuities to counterfeit young generation’s frustration in constructive ways, and enactment and enforcement of laws.

The last challenge – combatting corruption as well as social oppression – is not just complex one and but also extremely challenging to address. Apparently for many instances, it seems to be invisible. Simply one cannot see when a fish drinks water. But its implications are obliviously radical and multidimensional. Unless politics becomes pure, all sub systems continue to be corrupt. So, it is a must require way to enforce political reform. Certainly, it needs to revisit the doctrine of the father of the nation. Politics must walk through the path, philosophy and morality, Bangabandhu prescribed.

New enlightened and committed generation must way forward to the politics. We cannot not improve the politics as well as political culture just by criticizing it or just by writing opinion articles. Either it would notbe possible just by imposing reforms with the trickledown approach. Rather it requires transformational leadership by focusing on the committed, enlightened and ethically sound young generation. In this connection, the patriotic and ethically sound as well committed senior leaders must focus on transformational and bridging leadership.

As is implied in the preceding para the fact that the leadership matters. It matters because life and wellbeing of the people matter much. It matters as economic prosperity, and emancipation from hunger, poverty, illness, illiteracy and oppressions as well as deprivation of a country matter. It matters because sustainable development of a country matters. So is true in the case of a community and/or constituency.

In the case of my constituency, Sunamganj-1 (Dharmapasha, Modhanagor, Tahirpur and Jamalgaonj), it is naturally very beautiful and enormously resourceful. Within the current two consecutive regimes, honorable Prime Minister paid serious attention to the development of this haor area, and provided huge resource supports for the same. Therefore, development is remarkable here during this period. Introducing electricity to the communities, as well as right to information and telecommunications services, and building up Union Information Centers as well as major Upazila level roads, and importantly safeguarding the Tanguarhaor are some of the examples here. But still many things to do strategically. Emancipation of the common people from vulnerability, deprivations and social injustices, ensuring quality public services including basic road as well as railway networks andtransportations, and building up sustainable development of the communityare still in the way of targets.

Importantly fightingdrug abusing as well as corruption relating to the haor resources is a challenge here as well. Such challenge further invites here little local terrorism nexus. With a recent initiative I led here a series of social campaigns, ralliesas well as public discussionsagainst drug abusing, terrorism and corruption at its each thana - Dharmapasha, Modhanagor, Tahirpur and Jamalgaonj. A set of the pictures is enclosed here. Such protest needs to be continued in the community. As part of sustainable development vision and transformational as well as bridging leadership initiative, the committed central leaders are likely to pay attention to the building up committed as well as enlightened own young leadership of the community.
