Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar yesterday said the present government has taken several projects to make the technological use of Bangla time-befitting and easier, reports BSS.
“We have sacrificed a lot for establishing the dignity of Bangla language. We have made the most contribution to practice and flourish the language. We have to keep this background in mind while working for developing the Bangla fonts,” he said.
The minister said these while addressing a views exchange meeting with the local researchers, panel members of Bangla Academy and New Brahmi Generation at Bangla Academy here in the capital.
“It is sad but true that Unicode consortium had given little priority to the opinion of Bangladesh in developing Bangla fonts and that is why we face problems in applying the fonts for its technological use. We have to keep in mind that Bangla is a distinct language and the use of Bangla fonts is also discrete,” Jabbar added.
Presided over by national professor Rafikul Islam, the meeting was addressed by Bangla Academy Director General Prof Shamsujjaman Khan and ICANN official Shamiran Gupta, among others.
