Murder of auto-rickshaw driver

2 criminals taken on remand

Two alleged criminals were placed on five days remand yesterday while they were produced before a court in Kishoreganj for allegedly burning to death an auto-rickshaw driver on Thursday last.
They arrested are Abir Hossain alias Jony, 23, and Sajan Mia, 22, of Amati Shivpur village in Kishoreganj sadar.
Md Humayun Kabir Akanda, court- inspector of Kishoreganj said Jony and Sajan were taken to a judicial court and investigation officer of the murder case Ahsan Habib seeking 10 days remand while senior Judicial Magistrate Alaul Akbar granted five days remand each.  
Earlier, on Thursday, auto-rickshaw driver Md Shamim 24, of Amati village was burnt to death allegedly by local criminals at Amati Shibpur area in Kishoreganj sadar.  
The incident sparked protest by locals, who brought out a procession demanding punishment to the perpetrators.
Manik Mia, uncle of the deceased, said some spoiled youths of the area had been taking drugs near a fish farm, adjacent to Shamim’s house.  When Shamim raised objections to for taking liquor. Following which, on Thursday night at around 8:30 pm,  the hoodlums, including Jony, Al Amin and Shafiq, picked up Shamim when he was returning home with his auto-rickshaw.
They took him to the fish enclosure and tied up his hands and legs, and blindfolded. They then set him ablaze by pouring petrol over his body.
Doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as 80 percent of his body was burned.
But the victim died at Bhairab area while being taken to the hospital.
On Friday,  uncle of deceased filed a murder case with Kishoreganj sadar model police station accusing Jony, Sajan, Al Amin and Shafiqul Islam including few other unidentified men in the connection.
Later, on the day police arrested Jony from Karimganj upazila and Sajan from Mithamoin upazila.
