A Bangladeshi pilgrim has been found dead among the 108 individuals, who lost their lives when a crane collapsed in Mecca on Friday.
“Unfortunately, there is one Bangladeshi pilgrim among the 108 deceased,” Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi told The Independent yesterday.
His body was identified by his relatives and his Hajj agency, said a senior Foreign Ministry official.
“It depends upon the next of kin of the deceased whether his body will be brought back to the country. But, in 99 per cent of these cases, bodies are buried in Saidia Arabia,” he said.
The deceased has been identified as Abul Kashem (Sufi) son of Mohammad Anu Miah, Village-Kanchongonj, Post- West Elahbad, Chandanaish, Chittagong, said a Foreign Ministry press release yesterday.
His mortal remains are presently preserved in Al Moaisim mortuary in Mecca, it said.
Another 40 Bangladeshis got injured during the incident and out of them, 39 persons were released from the hospitals after primary treatments.
Nizam Uddin from Chanddnaish, Chittagong is still under treatment in a Hospital in Mecca.
Officials of Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah and Bangladesh Hajj Mission in Mecca are in constant contact with the relatives and concerned Hajj agencies of the victims as well as with concerned Saudi authorities.
