BCB to set up base camp for next WC in Ireland

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has planned to set up their pre-World Cup base camp for Bangladesh team in Ireland what they did in 2017 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in United Kingdom (UK).

Along with that, the board is talking with other boards to organise some more practice matches for the Tigers besides their ICC accredited warm-up matches prior to the extravaganza event, which is all set to begin in England and Wales in between May 30 to July 15.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury made the revelation to The Independent at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday just one day after his arrival in the country from Dublin’s ICC executive board meeting.

Bangladesh were benefited to play the tri-nation series as a part of their preparation for the best eight-team competition. By thrashing New Zealand, Bangladesh stormed into the first-ever semi-final berths of the showpiece event.

“We have some plans surrounding the next 2019 ICC World Cup. We will play in Ireland. Therefore, the next planning for some more games will depend on the time period,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“Our players will be away from home for around two months. We are thinking about the possibility of arranging some additional games besides the ICC accredited warm-up matches. We’re working on it,” Chowdhury told.

“We, earlier, played such type of tournament prior to the ICC Champions Trophy. The series is being held as its continuation of that plan,” he added.

The BCB CEO said that they will soon finish the appointment of the team’s other coaching staffs after Steve Rhodes’ appointment as the head coach. He hints that someone will soon be seen to join with the national team to assist the English head coach.  “We have appointed head coach Steve Rhodes, who is now with the team in West Indies. We will appoint fielding coach and batting consultant very soon,” he informed.

“We’re working on appointing batting and fielding coaches. We hope someone will soon be seen with the national team. In that case, we’ve some option. You all know that Gary Kirstein is with us. We’ll take our decision to hold discussion over the matter,” he continued.

When asked about Neil McKenzie’s appointment and joining as batting consultant with the Bangladesh team, Nizamuddin didn’t deny the question flatly even he did not specify the matter. He just said, “He (Mckenzie) is one of our options. We will, of course, inform you all if he joins the team.”
