Ensuring quality of higher edn stressed
RANGPUR: Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah yesterday called for ensuring quality of higher education to the greater national interest.
He said this while inaugurating office of BRUR unit of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) project of the University Grants Commission (UGC), said a press release.
The new office will help to provide trainings to the teachers and officials of the university, the VC said.
Presided over by Director of IQAC Prof Nazmul Haque and Additional Director of Planning, Development and Works of BRUR DR ATGM Golam Feroz were present the occasion, among others.
Unstable campus causes sufferings to students: DU VC
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman yesterday said that students and their families suffer the most if unrest situation is created on the campus.
“Instable circumstances hinder students’ regular educational life. They have to refrain from such activities that create unrest situation in the university campus,” he said.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman came up with the observation while addressing a programme held at the auditorium of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML) at DU. The Daily Star in association with Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) organised the programme titled “Promoting Knowledge”.
At the programme, copy of The Daily Star was distributed among the selected students who will also get a specimen copy of the newspaper for one year.
DU VC Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to build up as worthy citizens through maintaining proper use of their time.
“Students have to acquire linguistic knowledge. They have to gather objective information instead of paying heed in rumours,” he added.
2 IU students suspended for cheating in exams
Kushtia: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) have suspended two students for one academic year over the allegation of copying notes in exam halls.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of 'crime in exam and discipline committee' at the vice-chancellor's office around 11:00 am on Wednesday.
Vice-chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari issued the suspension order against Nasrin Nahar, final year student of Department of Law and Sabbir Ahmed, third year student of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering department, said acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif. They were suspended for violating the examinations' rules and regulations, he added.
IU admission tests begin Nov 3
KUSHTIA: The admission tests for the first year honours courses under 2018-19 academic session of Islamic University (IU) will begin from November 3 and till it will continue November 7, sources said at registrar office.
The decision was taken at the university central admission committee at VC’s room on Tuesday around 10am headed by the university vice-chancellor and convener of the committee ProfM Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari with Pro-vice Chancellor Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, Registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif, deans and chairman of various faculty were present here.

Besides the authority of the university will send the possible date of the entry test to the Association of University of Bangladesh after fixed the date, sources said.
