UN pushes for political solution

The United Nations has claimed that it is working for a political solution to the ongoing crisis of more than one million Rohingyas whom Myanmar has forced out of its territory to Bangladesh.
Well, we are working towards that end, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson of the UN secretary-general, told a regular briefing on Tuesday in New York when asked referring to the International Committee of the Red Cross, which said the political solution is the only solution to the protracted problem.
About the activities of the UN in this regard, the deputy spokesperson said, As you know, the Secretary General himself is just traveling back from the region, and his envoy, Christine Schraner Burgener, was there in Myanmar recently, and weve provided you with an update on her activities.
Were continuing with our diplomatic efforts, and we hope that at some point we will have the conditions conducive on the ground for the return of the Rohingya refugees, he added.
When asked if the secretary-general requested to go to Myanmar to meet the senior generals and state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, Haq said, No. For this trip, he had intended to go strictly to Bangladesh. Thats what he did.
