A bill titled, ‘Sugar (Road Development Cess Ordinance) (Abolish) Bill, 2018’ was passed in parliament on Tuesday to repeal the existing ‘Sugar Road Development Cess Ordinance’, aiming to relieve the sugarcane growers from paying taxes for development of roads in sugar mill catchment areas, reports UNB.Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu piloted the Bill and it was passed by voice vote.
The original law was promulgated through ordinance in 1960.
