MA Hashem made chairman of the NSU Trust, North South Foundation
MA Hashem, a founder life member of the North South University (NSU) Trust, has been elected as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the North South University Trust in its 85th Board of Trustees meeting and the Board of Governors of The North South Foundation for Education and Research in its 303th Board of Governors held recently for the year of 2018-2019. He took charge yesterday, says a press release.
MA Hashem is the former Member of Parliament of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad; Chairman of the Partex Group; Adviser to the Janata Insurance Company Ltd.; Founder of Noakhali Diabetic Samity and Founder President of Noakhali M. A. Hashem Degree College.
Canadian University of Bangladesh opens portal to Canadian Education
Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) organised a meeting with Vancouver Island University, Canada and King’s University College (Ontario, Canada) on July 27 on the University’s Banani campus, says a press release.
Shahnul Hasan Khan, executive chairman, of the university chaired the meeting.
In the meeting university management discussed with Vancouver Island University and King’s University College regarding student credit transfer and exchange programme. Besides, both universities are in process of reviewing higher education programmes, publication and research.
The Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mahfuzul Islam, dean School of Business Prof William H Darenger, registrar Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman Subhan (Retd.) and International Relations Manager Ali Shakhawat Akanda were also present in the programme.
Siddiq made IU accounts director
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: M Siddiq Ullah, a deputy director of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, was made the new acting Accounts Director of the university.
A press release signed by Rajibul Islam Kanok, assistant director of Information, Publication and Public Relations Office of the university, was issued on Saturday afternoon. Siddiq Ullah will succeed former Accounts Director Akamuddin Biswas, who has ended his tenure recently, said IU acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif.
Siddiq Ullah will continue his service until further direction, he added.
Varsity teachers urged to be more attentive in carrying out research works
CHATTOGRAM: University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan recenlty urged the university teachers to be more attentive in carrying out research works.
The UGC chairman was addressing the 30th senate meeting cum budget session held at Vice-chancellor auditorium at A R Mallik Bhaban on the campus.
The UGC chairman said Tk two crore has been allocated for research works in Chattogram University in the fiscal 2018-2019 and UGC is ready for more allocation if needed for the research. The former Vice-chancellor of CU Prof Mannan, however, noted that the allocated amount for the researches in public universities remain unspent.
Vice-chancellor of CU Prof. Dr Iftakher Uddin Chowdhury presided while CU acting registrar KM Nur Ahmed presented the budget in the meeting.

Qualitative education stressed for skilled human resources
RAJSHAHI: Qualitative and quantitative education can be the vital means of generating skilled human resources together with lessening the gradually mounting pressure of unemployment problem.
All concerned including teachers and students should come forward and work together to make the institution level teaching-learning process more effective to attain the cherished goal of boosting the sector of competent workforce.
The observation came at a view-sharing meeting with heads of educational institutions titled “Improvement of Education Infrastructure and Environment” at Rajshahi Medical College Auditorium yesterday. Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and City unit President of Bangladesh Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the meeting as the chief guest with Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, in the chair.
Teacher Association leaders Prof Shafiqur Rahman Badsha, Abdul Bari, Principal Raj Kumar Sarker, Principal Mujibur Rahman, Principal Aminur Rahman, Principal Ataur Rahman and Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
Liton said the present government with dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for both qualitative and quantitative improvement of education to take the nation forward. To this end, the government has adopted diversified programmes. He urged the participating teachers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavor of transforming the young generation to worthy citizen through education.
“We need dynamic leadership to take Rajshahi forward and the Rajshahi people should choose the capable person to lead the city competently in the forthcoming city corporation election,” he added.
In this context, he put forward a demand of declaring Rajshahi as an educational city as it is enriched with various educational institutions.
Badsha said step has been taken to launch direct railway communication between Rajshahi and Kolkata taking the patients necessity issue into consideration.
He opined that if Rajshahi Airport was upgraded to international standard, many people including students can avail the scopes of travelling to various foreign countries and various agro-products could be exported to abroad including the Middle East nations from here directly.
